Microsoft Is Bringing Google Assistant To XBOX One, Cortana Feels A Bit Betrayed

Microsoft is allowing Google Assistant to function on XBox One Consoles, giving it full access to launch games and apps, turn the console on and off, pause videos, and more.  The Google Assistant app for iOS or Android or a device like Google’s Home with Assistant on it will be required to control an Xbox One, it won’t run on the Xbox One itself, but will receive commands from other such devices running Assistant.

You will furthermore have to join a Google Group to get access to the Google Assistant support for Xbox One.  Once you’re all set with that  then it can be activated through the Google Home app for iOS or Android. Xbox users will have the ability to give their console a name within Google Assistant, allowing commands like “Hey Google, turn on Xbox”.

Microsoft is rolling this out as a public beta initially over the coming weeks, and there is a full FAQ and setup instructions on Reddit.

At the time of this post, Cortana was not available for comment. However, sources say she was last seen at a local pub in Redmond, Washington, lining up shots of tequila, and filling the juke box with various heart break songs from the likes of Pink and Taylor Swift.
